1.1 Background of the Study
Cultural tourism, which involves exploring a community’s heritage, traditions, and artistic expressions, has become a vital driver of economic and cultural development globally. In Nigeria, Hausa films have emerged as a key medium for preserving and showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Northern Nigeria, including traditional attire, architecture, festivals, and culinary practices (Abdullahi & Musa, 2023). In Bida West Local Government Area, Niger State, a region renowned for its cultural heritage, including the Bida Brass works and Durbar festivals, Hausa films have the potential to attract tourists by visually presenting the area’s unique traditions and values. By embedding cultural themes and landmarks in their narratives, Hausa films not only preserve traditions but also promote cultural tourism as a tool for sustainable development.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the abundant cultural heritage of Bida West, its tourism potential remains underexploited. While Hausa films have successfully highlighted cultural elements, the extent to which these films influence cultural tourism in Bida West is unclear. Limited research exists on how the portrayal of Bida’s culture in Hausa films can enhance its visibility as a tourist destination (Suleiman & Yusuf, 2024). This study seeks to address this gap by examining the role of Hausa films in strengthening cultural tourism in the region.
